Countdown...2 days

Minnie & Lisa
2008

I am sure you have all started packing but just in case you forgot something; here are some must-haves to make your reunion stay a home away from home.

1. Sunscreen because a sunburn is no fun.
2. Clock because you wouldn't want to miss your turn to help cook breakfast.
3. Lawn chairs because sometimes you need to take a load off.
4. Camera because you don't want to miss those Kodak moments.
5. Night Light because you don't want to hunt around for your shoes in the middle of the night so that you can make the trek to the bathroom.
6. Flashlight because well to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
7. Port-a-potty because you might not want to make the trek to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
8. Bug spray because there are bugs in Oklahoma.
9. Rug or mat because it is really awful to have sand/dirt in your bed.
10. Wagon because it can be exhausting hauling your stuff from the car to the cabin.
11. Fishing license because you would hate to ruin a good reunion with a ticket.
12. Egg crate because it will make the bed a little more comfy.
13. Blankets because it is April and nights can be a little on the cool side.
14. Jackets because spring mornings can be a little chilly.
15. Flip flops for the shower because...Just trust me. You want to bring those.
16. Bug bomb because if you're like Aunt Lisa and you may want a little assurance that bugs won't be in your bed.
17. Dominoes because what is the reunion without a little 42.
18. Band-Aids because owies happen at the reunion.
19. Bingo prizes because bingo is no fun without prizes.
20. Kites because kite day is a real downer without a kite.

Here are some pics of last year's prairie days.
Our crew all decked out in their prairie duds sewn by Diane.

News from Lisa 04/01/2009

Hello Loved Ones:

Yes it is the bearer of bad news again, me!

Randy went to see his oncologist today and the news wasn't good. His liver is totally consumed w/tumors. One is the size of a softball, one the size of a grapefruit, several the size of cue balls + many, many more. The cancer has now spread into his blood stream and is metastasizing thru his body. No time period was asked for or mentioned by either the doctor or family. His oncologist gave him a new experimental medication which should slow the growth of the cancers but will not cure him. Also medication to alleviate the pain. He goes back in 21 days on the 28th of April to see if the med has stopped the growth and spread of the cancer, if not he will take him off of it. Needless to say the mood is quite somber around here. The last I heard from Randy he is planning on being at the reunion this year, I suggest if he comes we put him in the cook's cabin, the beds are a tad bit more comfortable than the cabins. Mom and Pop are coming but only for one day.

Mom is doing some better but memory is getting worse each day. Almost time to take the keys. Her car has been parked for over 2 weeks now with a dead battery so I think she realizes it also. Used to it would have been fixed by the same day it was discovered.

I really am looking forward to seeing all of you at the reunion. It gets more important every year.

Love to you all,
Lisa

Only Miles Can Separate a Family.

This is an email Danny received from a family member in California. Please read.

I am the oldest daughter of A.V. and Reta Isbell. A.V. was the youngest son and Uncle Elbert was the oldest. I have heard of your reunion for years and wanted to come. Martha Alice called me a couple of times this year and my brother Allen and I looked into coming this year. But Allen has a law practice in Houston and simply could not get off. We do want to come next year, so as soon as you have the dates set, please let us know and we will come in 2010.

My siblings are Allen (71), Mary Sue (60), and John Paul (58).

*Allen lives in Galveston on the weekend where he preaches for the Church of Christ there. The building was destroyed in the Galveston hurricane this year, so the church meets now in Allen's garden room on his property. His wife, Mikey, lives all the time in Galveston and Allen lives in Houston during the week where he has a solo criminal law firm.

*Mary Sue is married to John Scott, a dentist, and lives in Tyler, Texas. Between them they have seven children and have 11 grandchildren with 2 more on the way. Mary Sue is a Reading professor and head of the department at Tyler Junior College.

*John Paul is married to Melissa. He has four children from his first marriage and two from his marriage to Melissa. He has two grandchildren. John Paul is a gynecologist practicing in Woodinville, Washington. The four of us and mates will go again to his house in July for a small family reunion which we began last year.

*I am 74, married for 54 years to Jack Scott, whom I met at Abilene Christian College. We have lived in Texas, Connecticut, and California; we moved to California in 1962. We are the parents of three daughters and two sons, but our youngest son, Adam, was shot to death in 1993. We have 10 grandchildren and 8, soon to be 9, great-grandchildren. We have had and continue to have a wonderful life. Our family home is in Altadena, but we now live primarily in Sacramento. Jack began as a preacher, went to Pepperdine to teach, then to the community college system as an administrator. After retiring as president of Pasadena City College, he was asked to run for the California legislature. He served 12 years, 4 as an Assemblyman and the last 8 as Senator. Because we have term limits, he was termed out last November. But he took another job, that of Chancellor of the 110 California Community Colleges. He is very healthy and is vigorous beyond his years (75). We bought a small house in Sacramento when he was a Senator and now we live here most of the time, though we maintain our house down south.I am a lucky one. I married before graduating from college, but eventually got two degrees and began teaching college English part time. When our youngest graduated from high school, I took a full time teaching position and taught for 20 years. I retired 5 years ago. I write a monthly column "Life Lessons" for 5 newspapers. Any one in the family who want to read my essays has only to e-mail me and I will put them on the list.

I look forward to meeting you and seeing all the family.I understand from Martha Alice that your mother is not well. I am sorry. I would like to know how she is.
Greet all the family for me.
-Lacreta Scott
